Ordering Parts

One of the problems of living overseas and driving an American car is accessibility to parts. But with online ordering, it's not too difficult to get most anything I need.....provided the vendor puts the right parts in the box!
The front brakes on my F150 started making noise about 2 weeks ago. Got new discs and pads on order and planned to change them this weekend. Parts came this past Monday, but I had no way to get to it until this weekend. Meanwhile they were sounding worse and worse, to the point I only drove the truck if I had to. This morning I drove to the on-base Auto Skills Center (great place, bays with lifts, tools, etc. for $8 an hour). As I got there I backed up in the lot and heard a loud clang. Went to go forward again and had zero pressure on the brake pedal. Uh oh! Think I waited a day too long. Turns out the inside right side pad came out (due to the inside of the rotor being down to nothing) which caused one of the clips to tear the cylinder seal of the caliper! Of course now I have to order new calipers. Time to put everything back together to get it out of the garage and park it. Went to put the new rotors on, wrong ones! Figured I better look at the new pads, yep, wrong ones!! Truck is no sitting brakeless outside of the garage until all the parts are re-ordered and received.
Got home and checked the order and found that I had ordered the right parts, but the wrong ones were shipped

Moral of the story...there really isn't one. Just a series of bad events that made me feel like ranting!! Had to do it here cause the wife is tired of hearing me

Re: Ordering Parts

That's what I was whining to my wife about. If we were stateside I could drive the other car to any of the dozen auto parts stores within 30 miles, and not have to wait another week or two until the parts come in. And hopefully the right ones.

Germany.

Re: Ordering Parts

Just took a look at Rock Auto. Their prices look great, and they ship to APO. I'll keep them in mind for next time.
The shipping to APO is where I get limited on selection. A lot of the auto parts stores only ship UPS.
I (re)ordered the brakes through discountautoparts, the guy that works at the auto center on base said they usually get here in 5 working days. They're right next to the APO facility in NJ, so I guess that's how they can be so quick. Right now since I'm renting a car until the truck is fixed, quick shipping takes precedence over price!

Re: Ordering Parts

Update. The parts I ordered came in two shipments, most likely because all together would've been too much weight to ship USPS. The second shipment just arrived on Monday so I took off on Wed and now have the truck on the road again!

It took a two weeks for it all to get here, but with all the Christmas orders being shipped I guess I couldn't expect much better.
Oh well, it's done, but hopefully next time will go smoother.
