1993 chevy truck tranny issue

My son has been driving my uncles old pick up and called from school to say it will not go into reverse. Upon further inspection reverse and neutral do not work. Is tranny shot?

Could you explain some like does the gears grind when it goes in reverse or will they not go into place or does it go into place but not move?

Re: 1993 chevy truck tranny issue

I have not replied because even the most basic information is missing from this post.
I know the year is 1993 and the make is Chevrolet and the model is ?
Missing is the engine size and the transmission model, is it two wheel drive or four?
is it an automatic or a standard?
Is it a three speed, four speed or overdrive model?
My crystal ball is broken, I can't answer your question until you give the facts.
