CWD's Implications Unknown??

Two cases of chronic wasting disease found at an Adams County deer farm last month, and the possibility that two escaped deer are carrying the disease, does not mean CDW will be found in the wild deer population anytime soon, experts familiar with the disease say. The implications, they say, are hard to predict and likely may not be realized for years.

In the long run, providing information and incorporating hunters and landowners in management efforts is essential to dealing with CWD, officials said.

"I think we've been able to adjust," Johansen said. "We've wrapped it into our normal program of activities,"

"Getting the information out can be more effective that regulations," Richards said. "If we can give them (hunters) information about what is risky and why its risky then it can be more effective."
