How effective is Dept. of Ag's "monitoring" program, one wonders?
Since the Legislature took captive cervids away from PGC and handed it off to AG, many have reservations about AG's ability to really handle things, since CWD came to PA. AG never had the manpower, funding or expertise to handle it, before CWD arrived.
I attended the first public meeting on CWD some years ago at Bermudian Springs HS. Few there were impressed with AG's grip on things. Even worse, most thought PGC was still in charge of deer and elk operations.
Later that same year, was at a CWD meeting held jointly by AG and PGC. Biggest impact of that meeting, was all the cervid farmers that came and ranted about being held back by regulations on selling/transporting cervids. Odd part, it was other states that had banned the import of PA-reaised cervids that was impacting those guys, not anything AG had done to that point.
