Oak island

Has anyone watched the show The curse of oak island, I have never done any treasure hunting but find it interesting. This show is pretty interesting, thought some of the guys on this forum may like it.

Re: Oak island

yep! was aware of the mystery years ago, but enjoying the series and seeing their perspective on it. Part of me wants them to succeed to prove the treasure is real, while the rest of me wants them to fail so the mystery can stay alive. Oh the way the brain of a treasure hunter works

Re: Oak island

Cool show. Several people threw money at it over the centuries, John Wayne invested over a million in the search. Most scholars agree whatever was there is gone, and the labyrinth of dead ends is an well executed ruse to keep searchers occupied forever. Seems to be working well !

Re: Oak island

I've been reading stories about oak Island since I was old enough to read. That's 50+ years, and I dont recall anything of value ever having been found there.
Perhaps it's time we asked; "If you were intelligent enough to have amassed huge amounts of treasure by being the captain of a pirate ship, an extremely dangerous business, would you..."
A) Bury the booty rather than make use of it?
B) Whizz it away on rum and wimmen of ill repuke?
C) Take the money to an area that you know to be friendly to your type of guy and make investments in legitimate business ventures and real estate?
Keep in mind also that many of the most successful pirates and their officers were educated men working under the table for their own governments through the issuance of 'Letters of Mark' in an effort to economically damage rival countries before wars were actually declared and were kept on a short leash by their own sponsors, which was easily done by placing spies among their own staffs in the same manner that the soviets placed 'political Officers' on their own naval fleet to assure loyalty. While some freelancing might very well have occurred, it's a pretty good bet that it was frowned upon and dealt with before vast amounts of wealth could be amassed.

Re: Oak island

I had never heard of Oak Island, or really been in to treasure hunting. I have thought it would be neat to get a metal detector and do a little searching. That being said, after reading this post I looked up Oak Island. For anybody who's interested, here is a neat little site outlining the excavations over the years:

Re: Oak island

What boggles my mind, is how whoever put that hole in the ground did all that way back when with no power equipment, just shear brute force.

Re: Oak island

The concensus is that the money pit was dug by slaves, I believe there is some historical reference. Sad.
