First finds

My Fisher F2 was sitting on the porch when I got home from work today. Put it together and hit a small section of lawn where people park when the driveway is full. Ended up finding 7 pennies including one wheat. Also dug up a few can tabs and other trash. Can't wait to get home tomorrow to search around an old foundation on a piece of property we bought last year.

Re: First finds

1958. Five of the other pennies were 1974 and older. One is a newer zinc that was so corroded that I could not make out a date.

Re: First finds

I'm completely new to this so I doubt I can offer any tips. However, from my limited use yesterday, I found that with some "trash" you would get the same number when you swung left over it, then a consistent different number when you swung right (especially if it was a can tab.) A few times I thought I was digging a quarter/nickel only to find a tab. However, the pennies I found consistently displayed "dime" with the exception of the newer one. Hopefully I find something other than pennies tonight to see how the machine acts.

Re: First finds

best advice regardless of machine is low and slow. brush the grass with the coil and take 3-5 seconds to go from left to right and then another 3-5 to go back to home. if you think you are going too slow, you are probably still too fast

Now I'm thinking I go too fast so I must be going WAY to fast.
I thought I read somewhere to swing 3-5 feet per 1-2 seconds.

Re: First finds

Makes sense. I swipe approx five feet left to right which is close to the ratio you read!
