Bored ?

I honestly don't see how so many folks of retirement age, can say they wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they retire, with tolls like a Metal Detector out there. Maybe it's just my deep love for history and historical items, but I would definitely take a hobby like MD'ing when I'm ready to retire (soon but no cigar yet). Just a random thought.

Re: Bored ?

I retired over 6 years ago, and bored has yet to enter my life.
My problem is I can't find enough time to take a vacation.

The way that you wander is the way that you choose,
The day that you tarry is the day that you lose.
Sunshine or thunder, a man will always wonder.
Where the fair wind blows.

find a tot lot with wood chips to start out. that way you can quickly assess your pinpointing and target ID skills without much digging

Be carefull though , our township parks don't allow you in the playground bark chip areas . Always check the rules first .....

Re: Bored ?

I would think you could "practice" right in your own yard. Just bury some coin and sweep over it. Can bury different depths, or even different types of metals. ...... or maybe I don't know that the heck I'm talking about.

you can do that BUT you'd be amazed at the difference in tone with some machines on a newly dropped coin and a coin that has been buried for 100yrs.

I agree, you wait all your life to retire, then some just lay around and do nothing.

Re: Bored ?

A couple of years ago I burrowed my son's cheap detector to find a arrow that was under the grass in my back yard. I found the arrow, then started to play with the unit. I had a lot of beeps before I found the arrow so I started digging. The area must have been a dump site at one time, I was finding old broken shovel heads, broken furnace grates and junk. It was fun and I can understand why it can easily become a hobby.

Re: Bored ?

I have a lot less junk in my lawn than I did three weeks ago .

Life has been busy so I haven't spent a lot of time reading as I should have to do the set up. Once I do that I am sure live will be better.
