Beginners Help with Fisher F2

So my son has been wanting a detector. I told him to save up his allowance and I would match whatever amount he put towards it. We ended up getting the Fisher F2 with a 4", 8" and 11" head.

It came in the mail today and we put it together as soon as I got home. Went up underneath the clothesline and within 5 minutes found a dime about 4 inches deep. (Beginners Luck)

Anyhow - we are marking plenty of other dimes, but we did and can never find them. So my question is - Where do you dig? When the beep happens do you dig at the center of the head or do you dig at the leading edge of the head? I hope that makes sense.

Anyone else have the F2?

Re: Beginners Help with Fisher F2

Your fisher f2 pinpoint spot should be dead center in the little circle in the coil. Test this by dropping a dime on the surface and swinging over it, slowly narrow down your swings to end up directly over top, see where it is sitting(again should be dead center of coil)

oh, and a handheld pin pointer is pretty much a necessity for a newbie
Garrett Pro Pointer is a little pricey, but more than worth the money, don't waste your time/cash on the cheaper ones.

Re: Beginners Help with Fisher F2

I wasn't narrowing down into small swipes once I hit on something. Went back out tonight and found everything that hit on a constant beep.

I can see that this thing is going to create more questions in my head than it solves. Like - hmmm wonder how that thing got there and who was it that lost it.
