Spanish/colonial silver today!

Every relic hunter has a "wish list" of items they would like to find. Then there is the "I wish" list of items so rare in your area that you never plan to find one without traveling. Well today I found an "I wish" item that got the blood pumping. Spanish colonial silver, 1784! Found in schuylkill county in a spot that lots of research shows may be connected to the Tulpehocken Trail. Seeing as how this beauty was under flat, road stones, I'd say a road was put there in the 1800s most likely right on top of the original trail. A dream come true! Found a modern cent and 1942 wheat penny to go with it. So many thoughts in my head. How did it end up there, by who, why, how bad did it hurt the family financially to lose this way back then. Very blessed to have found and added this to my collection.

Really cool find there and I hope you find many more. I have often wondered what would be uncovered if selected roadbeds were mined for artifacts. Like, for example, the road that goes through Valley Forge Park.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

You and me both. Every time I see a sidewalk tear-out I try to get on to detect, but it's very tough in my area. Sidewalks are "owned" by borough/township but maintained by the homeowner. By the time you get permission from both they have already put down a new walk
This "road" under which I found this coin was actually under 5 inches of soil, we never knew the road was there, only rumors of the old trail. All I can think is that the trail was used until the 1800's, then stone was put down over the trail and eventually that was filled up and the blacktop road was completely moved about 12feet.

Re: Spanish/colonial silver today!

I can't even imagine finding a coin like that . Congrads ..

Holding objects dropped in that exact spot 100-200 or more years ago really brings out a thirst for history of an area . Which probably explains my library of local & Pa. history ......
