Thyroid Cancer??

My oldest Daugther(age 29) was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Had a routine check up 2 weeks ago & MD felt a little lump in her neck which led to biopsy which was done & came back as thyroid cancer(Papillary type). We met with surgeon last Thurs & thank God the cancer hasn't spread into the limp glands, voice box, tongue etc. & it is in the left lobe of thyroid. He will be removing entire thyroid though due to its abnormal swelling plus high susceptibility of right lobe becoming cancerous. Must visit a endocrinologist next week then will have the surgery in December. She will have radiation treatment after surgery. Things look very positive for a full cure at this time.

Curious if anyone here has dealt with Thyroid Cancer or know of others who have? Any input much appreciated.

Re: Thyroid Cancer??

I have talked to many people in my profession who have fought the battle of thyroid cancer and all have won. Obviously, through treatment, the thyroid will most likely be destroyed, so your daughter will be prescribed a medication like synthroid or levothyroxine- this is not anything to be too concerned about. Obviously, the doctor's know more about the direction they will be taking more than I. Just keep in mind that it is highly curable at this point since it hasn't spread. Also, keep in my the Good Lord is in total control of this situation and just trust in Him to get you all through it

For those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles..

Re: Thyroid Cancer??

Loggy, one of my best friends wife had thyroid cancer several years ago. They implanted so0me radio active seeds for a period of time and today she is fine. I send my best wishes for your daughter.

Re: Thyroid Cancer??

Thanks John. My Daughter has Papillary Thyroid cancer with tumor in the left lobe with considerable swelling in rt lobe so MD will be removing entire Thyroid Gland. Radiation will follow in 6-8 weeks. Thank God it isn't anaplastic thyroid cancer which per her surgeon is a death sentence with minimal hope of cure..
