I remember seeing an article in the Universal Forum before about Smoothie Recipe's. Since seeing it I have been making some for me and the kids. I have found a good one since the raspberries are getting ripe. We just mix low-fat milk, non-fat vanilla yogurt, ice, and fresh picked rasberries. I don't mix any specific proportions, but just throw it together in the blender. These things are delicious and should be pretty good for you. We will have to try the blackberries once they start to ripen.
Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!
I have been putting apples thru the blender with store bought blackberries and a little water to thin them down to increase my fruit intake and add some variety. They are very good and I am looking forward to wild ones ripening. I need to try some other variations.
THis is the smoothie I make for my 2nd Breakfast or mid afternoon snack everyday- it usually is enough to cover part of another meal too:
This is the base
1 Cup mixed Berries
1/3 banana- optional ( I am not a big fan of bananas but I tolerate the flavor in a smoothie because of the nutrition they provide)
1 Cup Smart Balance LActose Free OMega 3 Milk
1/3 cup or splash of reduced sugar or low acid orange juice
1 container of Oikos greek yogurt- Plain
1 scoop vanilla egg white or whey protein
Some add in's I use:
tsp of Metamucil or Xanthum gum- adds fiber
kale or spinach just a small handful- lots of good nutrients here
Oatmeal- no more than a quarter cup
Cottage cheese in place of yogurt
Agave Nectar or Stevia if I choose to have it a little more sweet
For those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles..
