A dry cough !

My 17 year old grandson had a dry cough for a few weeks? Allergies ? Spring time pollen?
He had a trip to Paris and went.
When he got back he was still coughing!
His dad took him to the Doctor and they sent him for X-rays !
That was about 2 weeks ago .
Well he was home Sunday puking his guts out ?
He has Lung cancer and the Chemo on the 5th day really made him sick!
He never smoked or done anything to harm his self. He just made Eagle Scout in the Boy scouts!
After more checking by the Doctor and the Oncologist it started in his testicles and went to his lung !
He has a break in the chemo for a week and then back for more !
They will have to remove one of his testicles
Man and there is nothing I can do to make him better !

sorry to hear this. the only advice or suggestion i can give is to get him to a specialist. not a local specialist, but one from the Cancer centers of America, there is one in Philadelphia.

or the mayo or cleveland clinic.

my best friends wife has stage 4 lung cancer. they went to the Cleveland clinic and the initial dose of radiation knocked her cancer tumor flat. they are very aggressive. she agreed to continue her treatment here in Erie under the directions of the Cleveland clinic. the Erie Doctor told them he would not have been this aggressive had it not been for the guidance of Cleveland.

her initial prognosis was to get her to their anniversary in July. they have now extended their plan into next year as she is responding very well to the aggressive treatment.

i am not saying she is going to survive, what i am saying is that Doctors treat the same things differently and her out come is looking better and she is doing great compared to what the "specialists" here in Erie wanted to do.

sending Prayers for a great outcome for your Grandson.

I hope all turns out well for your grandson. Just an FYI, another option in Philly is Fox Chase Cancer Center. Itís located in the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philly.

Friend of mine was told by a local oncologist to go home and get his affairs in order. That was 4 years ago. Instead he went to see a specialist down at University of Pennsylvania. They gave him some DNA specific therapy and then operated with a "gamma knife" He is still working as a heavy equipment operator in construction. Not totally out of the woods, but he would have died 3.5 years ago, had he listened to the first quack. Of course every one if different, and each cancer has it's own peculiarities. But get to a specialist at a big university.

I have had a bad cough for 8 years and been to doctors all around the mid atlantic. Aggravating when they can only find a partial cause and are unable to do crap about it. Then I read about someone so much worse off and feel fortunate. Payers for your grandson.

From what I saw during my son's treatment, HUP is among the best. Spent some time at MSK in NYC evaluating their options and we talked with several others. At least for lymphoma HUP was the place to be.
