e-Bikes

Anyone have any experience with Electric Assisted Bikes? I'm seriously thinking about getting one for mountain biking. At my age and physical condition theres no way I'm peddling up hills without some assistance and I don't want to have to push my bike up every steep hill I encounter. Maybe with a little help I could eventually make it on my own.

I'm really interested in the kits because of the price. I'm just wondering how well they would work on a cheap mountain bike from Walmart or do I need to bite the bullet and get the whole package?

Thanks In advance.

Re: e-Bikes

Yeah that's pretty slick. Probably worth doing rather than trying to build one myself.

Pretty sure if it has a motor of any type, it rules out PA Game Land use. I may be wrong.

They just passed legislation which classifies these things as bicycles (pedal cycles) and bicycles only. They would be legal on game lands.

Re: e-Bikes

I sent an email to the PGC asking if they would be legal on game lands and they said it would not be, because it has a motor.

Re: e-Bikes

They'll have to get their legislation straightened out. If the game laws allow for a "pedal cycle" on game lands, this would be permitted because its classified under law as a "pedal cycle"

Re: e-Bikes

I was thinking the same thing and it's quite possible the person that replied just assumed since it has a motor then it is not permitted. I agree with you if it's classified as a pedal cycle it should be legal.
