On tuesday I took my son out in hopes of getting him his first deer. He just turned 7 yesterday and he stuck it out with me all archery season, but he liked to talk a bit too much in the blind to get a deer within crossbow range. He has been shooting since he was 3 so I felt confident that he could put a good shot on within a 100 yards. He practiced for 2 weeks or so shooting my 270 with low recoil ammo and his groups were as good as mine. Tuesday when he finished school we went out to his 2 man treestand and weren't there for 20 min and had a lone doe walk into the field. The doe was about 60 yards out and he got the gun up on the blind rest and told me he "was on it". I said when your ready and aimed good, flip the safety and drop it. Sure enough gun goes off and deer dropped. His reaction was priceless as he had tears of joy (not going to lie, so did i). So proud of my little man, and hopefully more to come!
