scrapping roof top ac unit

We just replaced our old roof top ac unit at camp. it was abut 20 years old but still pumping great ice cold air. we were putting on a new roof so we thought it would be conv. to do both. anyways since it was still working any thought on how to scrap this unit? strip it, sell the compressor/motor or take it to a scrap place whole? I hate to toss it our since it still works. the plastic shroud was busted up and the inside part with all the knobs got tossed out or i would have seen if anyone needed one for a camp. thanks

Re: scrapping roof top ac unit

Most scrap yards won't take it with refrigerant in it. Find someone to remove it for ya then take it to the scrap yard and collect some money. If you were closer I would remove the refrigerant for ya since I own my own HVAC company and have the equipment to do that.
