Holster Restoration?

I just picked up a Ruger MK II over the weekend. It came with a leather holster, but the holster has some mildew on it. I can live with the blemishes, but not the smell. Does anyone know if it is possible to restore a holster in this condition?

I have tried saddle soap, Lexol cleaner & conditioner, and I am ready to start with a clorox/water solution. I have nothing to lose here. My best outcome is a functional holster, my worst is that I destroy a damaged holster.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Holster Restoration?

I am not sure what bleach would do to the leather. It sounds like it is pretty moldy. I would scrub it with soapy water and not get it too wet then when it dries i have always rubbed in a good coat of mink oil. Especially in the stitching and seams. As long as it it not severely dry rotted and cracked I would not give up on it. Mink oil does wonders. I protect all of my leather slings and boots with it. Good luck.

Re: Holster Restoration?

Thanks for the suggestion!

It is not rotted or cracked. With the exception of some mildew marks & horrible smell, it is in decent shape.
