choosing a carport

hey folks, i might be looking to buy a carport for my truck/tracter/motorcycle whatever i put in there..i dont want to block a window from my living room and its beside my garage(not big enough)..so in your opinion would i be better to buy one or build one? I see there are options as to what grade certified or uncert? 14 gauge or 12...I dont want it to fall down but i dont want to break the bank either. its already paved where i plan to put up the structure, any brands you would recomend? its gonna be in deer lakes north of pgh

Re: choosing a carport

Built mine

32' x 18' roof was the expensive part. Timber isn't bad $$ wise. Just labor after that.

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Re: choosing a carport

You can get a 14X24 (constructed) for about $1400, figure what for lumber and hardware you will have to have and the time it will take to construct.

Check with your township. Some get excitable about them.

Re: choosing a carport

In my township they are not taxed because they are not permanently (no foundation).

Re: choosing a carport

They even offer garage models whereby the floor joists are spaced on 12 inch centers and have overhead doors....

Re: choosing a carport

I would go with building one. Personally I just thing they look better and sturdier than the all metal ones.
