Ag Progress Days

Starts August 16th.

Tours:

Deer Research Center
When:August 16, 20119:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Where:Corn Crib (Top of Main St.)
Visitors can view live deer and various antler displays. Discussions will focus on deer biology and current research. Members of the Quality Deer Management Association will provide information on deer management and QDMA. In the event of inclement weather, animals will be viewed from the bus and a slide show will be presented in the display room. Bus leaves daily at 9:30 a.m. with an additional tour at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday

Habitat Management for Deer and other Wildlife
When:August 16, 201110:00 AM to 11:00 AM
This tour will focus on food plots and natural habitat management practices used on public or private property as part of a Quality Deer Management System to improve habitat for many wildlife species while producing healthier and larger deer. The tour will look at recently installed habitat demonstration plots in the woodlot and neighboring fields and will cover how to integrate habitat improvements to meet your individual objectives. This tour complements the PSU Deer Research Pens tours and QDM seminars. TOURS: Daily 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with a late tour Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

The One Acre Woods
When:August 16, 201111:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Where:Corn Crib (Top of Main St.)
This forest management tour takes an in depth look at an acre of mature forest in our woodlot. Recent inventory data will look at overstory and understory species compositions, tree size, quality, value, and wildlife attributes. Learn how this information can guide timber and wildlife opportunities. A discussion of harvesting options will demonstrate how to achieve appropriate future forest conditions, the highest long-term economic return, and improved wildlife habitat. TOURS: Daily 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with a late tour Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

Predator Control for Deer: Hound Hunting for Coyotes & Bobcats
When:August 16, 2011 12:00 PM to August 18, 2011 1:00 PM

Nope. Daughter came home at 11:30 after her shift and woke me up. Finally fell back asleep around 4. Ugh.
