Susquehannock State Forest Habitat Tour

Below I have included a link to this year’s Susquehannock State Forest Habitat Tour. Each year we try to move the tour around to a different section of the SF and also bring in some new presenters. This year we will be in the Lyman Run/West Branch area of the district. We are also very fortunate to have some new presenters that will be covering several topics that are both new to the tour and very interesting to those of us that are interested in current forest/wildlife habitat issues. Eric Miller is the current Public Lands Habitat Section Chief for the PGC and has alot of interest and expertise in Woodcock and Grouse ecology. We recently did a woodcock/Grouse habitat improvement project in a riparian area on state forest in conjunction with the PGC and will be visiting this site on the tour. In addition, Alex Royo (Research Ecologist for the US Forest Service) will also be attending the tour http://www.nrs.fs.fed.us/people/aroyo.

Other stops/topics on the tour include past and present timbersale sites, habitat improvements that we are seeing and what we should expect to see with current forest and white-tailed deer interactions, forest recreational opportunities, current habitat assessment measures that we use, forest insect and disease update and Lyman Run State Park tour.

The tour is Sunday April 29th from 9am-2pm and is free of charge. We will be meeting at Lyman Run State Park. Transportation and lunch will be provided. To sign up for the tour either call the district office at 814-274-3600 or email [email protected]. Hope you can make it.

bts, just got back from camp...(see post in camp forum, sure you may recocnize some of it)...was thinking about you guys and your tour as i walked around. Looking real nice over there, we saw four grouse, all drummers just driving around.

Love to make it for the tour, but I am guessing late June or July will be our next trip, just the way life is right now.

Sounds like the family had a good weekend, even with the soso weather conditions. Thanks for posting the pics and stories, I always enjoy reading them.

I do recognize a few of those photos.

We will get you up here for a tour one of these years!! But I understand how busy life can get with the family these days. Take Care

Re: Susquehannock State Forest Habitat Tour

Thanks Gal, We did end up with a really good turn out and the weather was great. I believe we had somewhere in the neighborhood 40 people on the tour this year. Then I get the pics downloaded I will post a few.

In my opinion, it was a huge success and a tremendous amount of information was presented to the attendees. Thanks for the invite Troy!

Re: Susquehannock State Forest Habitat Tour

Thank you, I really appreciate that. A lot of planning and prep goes into the tour and some good reviews and turnout make it all worth while. It was great to have Alex Royo and Eric Miller along, I thought their contributions to the tour were great. Next year we will probably be down in the cross fork area.

Glad you had a great turnout.
