Re: gonna start reloading - what make of tools

overall sales, rcbs is top dog. hornady and lee are close behind. redding is a much smaller player in the game. dillon is a factor but more toward the progressive high volume reloader. quality wise it may be a ford/chevy type debate. each brand has a loyal following. me, i have 2 rockchuckers and a hornady progrssive. most of my dies rcbs, rcbs powder measure and 10-10 scale. i also have a hornady case prep center. warranty wise those two are a toss-up, both a-1. can't go wrong with either. the hornady load and load system is great if you run small quantities and change dies often. it is so good that i installed it on both my rockchuckers. lee i have no experience with. do you like red or green? a follow up question is what brand/brands does you local shop/shops stock. even if you pay a little more there the mom & pop shops are a treasure trove of info and support and may even have used presses etc. support them please.

Not any local shops that sell reloading equipment but u support them as often as I can with other stuff ! And Im planning on reloading mostly rifle . Maybe some pistol . If I do reload pistol it will be .38 special. Rifle will be an array of calibers as I'm tryin to get into some custom loads for ling range shooting

Re: gonna start reloading - what make of tools

The best kit IMO is the RCBS kit.....the hornday would be second.....

That being said as far as new stuff out there I would list them quality wise as follows:

Redding
RCBS
Forster
Hornady
LEE

Re: gonna start reloading - what make of tools

As far as what is better you will get as many recommendation as there are brands. In fifty years of reloading I have and still have equipment from everyone, except Dillion and Lee.
From what I have read Dillion is very good and has a strong following, I have never owned anything of theirs. Lee however I have. they to have a strong following, I have owned Lee and lets just say I was not impressed.
Not in any order but if you Buy Hornady, RCBS , Lyman,Dillion, or Redding you will not regret it. One thing I will suggest if Rifle is your main pursuit. I bought the Redding Big Boss to go along with my two other presses for the longer magnum Rifle rounds. Any of the above mentioned presses have vary good quality and warranties. Lee not so much but the price reflects that as well as the quality.

Re: gonna start reloading - what make of tools

Either kit from Hornady or RCBS will get you high quality basic equipment.
Buy the one that you can get the best deal on. Either one will last forever.

As far as dies go, I have mostly RCBS, but any dies I have purchased in the
last 5 years are Hornady. They are much nicer in many regards for similar cost.
As far as Lee goes, I'm not a fan. I have one set of Lee dies and don't
care for them. Lee does make some decent "specialty stuff"...
I have a couple of the FCD's & I like their trimmers for "low volume" stuff.
Their cast iron presses seem are OK, though I've never used one.
