? on Whelen brass

Well, I ordered bullets and brass for my Whelen and only the bullets came in, brass was backordered. Do any of you make Whelen brass out of ott-6 brass? Can I just run it thru my Whelen die or do I need a special die? I have tons of ott-6 brass layin' around. Just wonderin'. Thanks

Alrighty then!

Re: ? on Whelen brass

I form Whelen from '06 brass....use a tapered expander and dry lube the necks and you won't lose any cases during the forming process.....

Re: ? on Whelen brass

When my uncle had a whelen she just shot cheap 30-06 factory loads. He never had a problem doing that.

Your uncle is a she? And she shoots .30-06 ammo through a .35 Whelen?

You certainly could since the cartridge head clearance/chamber headspace is the same for both cartridges. If you measure an 30-06 using a .415" datum the length will be 1.983"(min) the same as the Whelen.

The 30 cal bullet might rattle down the bore a bit however

Is that safe? Can it damage the barrel?

Re: ? on Whelen brass

i had an old timer tell me he did the same with the old 30 rems in a 32 rem because the 32 went obsolete years ago. said the accuracy wasn't that bad either.

Re: ? on Whelen brass

I'd do it if it was only a two caliber jump. But .30's in a .35?
