Re: .243 load for my 10yr. daughter

I'm loading a 100 NSB or 100 SPH with H4831SC/BR2/Win brass for the 243 I put together for my now 11 year old grandson. His only complaint after 20 or so rounds, Pop didn't load enough ammo! He has been shooting that rifle/load since he was eight.

Long story, but my son(his father) ended up taking a doe with it at roughly 125 yards. She took one leap then "Perspired".

Bill

PS..my avatar is him at the start of one of his touchdowns, 57 yards!

Re: .243 load for my 10yr. daughter

what range will she be shooting at? How big are the deer?

Some publish reduced loads like Lymans 48th. I was talking to Hornady and one of the techs said 1000 F/lbs. is minimum where he lives by the Game comission.

do the homework before the hunt

Re: .243 load for my 10yr. daughter

Several years ago I handloaded some 243 Win cartridges for my cousins 12 year old daughter. I used Win. brass, Rem 9 1/2 primers, a Nosler 95 gr. Bal-Tip and a STARTING load of 32.0 gr of IMR 4064. This is NOT a reduced load it is a starting load. Muzzle Velocity about 2600 fps. The load was accurate and the recoil mild. BTW she killed her first Deer, a three point Buck that fall with this load. She downed him with one shot!
