Why would a case stick in a die ?

Just for something for us to discuss and get rid of boredom ?
I know about the lack of case lube causing this but what else may be the problem ?
Dirt in the die ?
What have you found that caused it to happen to you ?

ME, I take my dies apart every time to clean after sizing. I once put my die back together wrong, I had the sizing button to high I was trying to shrink the neck and expand it at the same time, Dumb

Dirty cases. Either not tumbling them or not wiping them down lets that soot from firing mix with the lube... and or not wiping off the fine dust that coats them after tumbling. That fine dust will mix with the lube over time and form a paste.

I clean the inside of the dies with rubbing alcohol and whatever barrel swab that fits snuggly.

I would say small particles of dirt and of course lack of sufficient lube. If I find one going up and getting a little tight, don't show your man hood of strength and keep going just back it out. Only stuck 2 in my life and have done many years of reloading.

Great advice from outofstater!

I have seen dies get surface rust in them, could possibly create a stuck case.

Keep your cases and dies clean and make sure the case is sufficiently lubricated. I use Imperial sizing wax and have never had a stuck case with it.

Good luck, Tony

Itís usually a lube issue and usually related to the expander ball.

Iíve switched to a mandrel expander and just use my FL die for bumping back the shoulder.

Much easier on the brass and less of a chance of a sticking one.

like Imperial also been using it for years. Come to think of it I think I was having expander ball issues when I stuck mine.
