12 ga. and 20 Ga. trap power

What is recommend for a good power for trap 12 & 20 ga. AA hulls? I have a half of keg of 700 X that dated back to the mid seventies.....

Alliant "unique" works in both gauges but is better for 20 gauge. Really though you probably will want to use different powders for each gauge. Hogdon "international" or "universal" might be suitable.

Typical 12 gauge target powders are poor choices for the 20 gauge.

I don't have a problem with separate powers for 12 vs 20. Probably could have worded the question more clearly.

I can't really speak to the 20ga, I just started loading for that last summer and still haven't found anything I "like". Works, yes. Prefer, not yet.

For the 12ga though I don't use anything but International Clays for up to 1-1/8 oz loads. Great powder for speed, my 1oz trap loads chrono about 1275fps. And it's clean burning. I've never liked 700x, although I do have 8 pounds of it floating around from when powder was non-existent. Always too dirty for me.

Remember, shoot straight and shoot often.

700X does leave a dirty barrel, but I have a lot of it I must use or discard.

A lot of targets have been broken with 700X, it's a good powder for 12 gauge loads. I have used Alliant Unique for my 20 gauge skeet loads for years. Maybe I'm not very fussy though. I use Unique because I also load some 16s and 28s and works for those too.
