AR loads

I just started reloading for my AR and I wondering what is everyone's favorite powder and bullet weight? I just loaded a few test rounds with what I have available, Varget and 50 grain bullets. I'm shooting out a 16" barrel with a twist of 1-8. I'm not looking for exact load information just what you use.

Re: AR loads

BLC2, Tac, CFE223, 748 and H335 are my primary powders for AR's. Ignited with either a CCI 41 or 450. I shoot mostly 55 grain FBHP and 77 OTM bullets. I have loads worked up for 64 grain bonded and 70 grain TSX, also. I use a lot of once fired brass that I buy online. If you're gonna use military brass, I highly recommend the Dillon Super Swage 600.

Re: AR loads

CFE223 is a good choice for powder, The best place I have found for bullets is Mid- South shooters Varmint nightmare brand of bullets,
They sell for about $41.00 for 500 I also shoot the 55-Gr., I buy the soft point and they shoot very well in my AR 15, mini 14, and 22-250. If you don’t have them you may also want to pick up a Lee universal de-priming Die, For the mil-surplus brass. And a the Lee factory crimp die.

Re: AR loads

Thanks for the info. Initially I was hoping to use one of my existing powders. But the more I research it I'll have to add another powder to my supplies.

Re: AR loads

24.5gr Varget under a 69 gr Nos Custom competition with a CCI 41 out of a 20" 1/8. Shot about .7 at 125yds then I took the scope off and use it for comp.
With a 1/8, get different bullets not different powder.

Every day you see it on the news. Another felons life needlessly spared by inaccurate fire.
