45/70 Trapdoor

Found this years deer rifle, all I need is a load.

Anyone launching big heavy bullets real slow at critters and what might you be using? Remember, Trapdoor, not #1 or Marlin.

I can always take her home and go 45/70/500, but would prefer smokeless.

Every day you see it on the news. Another felons life needlessly spared by inaccurate fire.

Re: 45/70 Trapdoor

I load 405 grain Remingtons or 405 hard lead cast over a modest charge of IMR-3031. I could look it up in a bit. But it's a Lyman book load. IMR's load data pages would give you a place to start too.

I also like AA-5744 for low pressure loads. Actually LOVE it !!!! But I've not yet tried any in my Trapdoor.
