308 load for savage axis

My buddies son has a savage axis in 308 he would like to start reloading for. Does anyone have a bullet weight or load to try? It has a 1 in 10 inch twist.

I like BLC2 or 748, 150 grain bullet and Federal 215M primer. Don't know what he is using it for so I left out bullet make. Start low and work up.

I'm liking IMR-3031 and CCI-200's under 150 grain bullets. Start 4 or 5 grains under max and see what groups best.

Deer die easy. You don't have to wring every fps out of it. Make it group tightly.

I like 4064, CC1200's and a 150 Hornady SST.

Re: 308 load for savage axis

Thanks for the info guys. I have been trying IMR3031 with 150gr hornady bullets without much luck. I will have to get some IMR4064 to try. I thought maybe it was the 150gr bullet weight in the 1 in 10 barrel twist that was causing the larger groups.
