I read someplace not to use ammo resized in a small base die in a bolt action. I have been using ammo resized in my small based die for years with no troubles. Anyone have any insight on this?
Small base die reduce the case body diameter at the web area more than a regular FL die, typically .003" more. Other than that all the other interior dimensions are the same as a regular FL die, interior length, neck diameter and etc.
Normally they're used to size brass to function (chambering and primary extraction) on those actions with less camming force than a BA, pumps, levers and etc.
At the least you may be over working the brass by oversizing and shortening it's usable life. Worst case the possibly risking a case head separation, but all depends on the dimensions of the chamber, die and brass. Determining those dimensions is easily done by making casts of both the die and chamber.
