Takin a break and getting away..

Been a tough summer on us here with losing two of our absolute best dogs and having to finally retire 13 year old Abbie to the couch.
So it's been a summer of running young ones 2 and 3 times a week solo and in pairs.
The only seasoned hounds that we have left is Mag's younger sister Molly at 4yo and my big male Luke at 3 yo. Molly has had a really nice summer and will be taking the lead role in our hunting pack.
Cinder Mag's dauhter is 2 now and will get a ton of work too, but she's running a bit rough right now.

Been really happy with this young guy,
Duke is looking just super at only 10 months old. Can solo a bunny for hours and will make some seasoned dogs look silly at times in a pack.

Meet "Lackawanna Put up your Dukes"
He is out out FC.HBCH Snotop's Blazin Butch and 3XFW Snotop's Lackawanna Jezynowka (another younger sister to Maggie)

This guy appears like he is going to be special.
Most talented pup we have had here since Mag.

Well anyway, after all that happened Janie and I needed a pick me up, so it's on an airplane tomorrow first thing and off to Colorado to hunt elk for a week.

This is my second favorite this to do in life.

Wish us luck and we'll see our fellow houndsmen in about a week.

Good luck John and a great looking pup I love solid blanket backs. I also have a 11 month old pup that sure is something I can't wait to see him in 2 years.

Re: Takin a break and getting away..

OK
I'll end the suspense

We had that ever so rare perfect hunt.
We got on elk right from the start and were in Critters just about the whole time.
At the end of the 2nd day, we saw this stud at about 600 yards.
We made the stalk and got to about 200 but no bull.
So we sat on him and about 2 hours later, we hear a bugle across the valley and there he is.
He came on a rope and I took him at about 150 yards and he fell right in his tracks,
And we were able to get a winch right to him and pull him right in the truck.

What a hunt !!!

Janie was as excited as I was.

I'll make a full post on the elk forum with more pics after I get a little shut eye. We got in about 2 AM and I made it to work today. It's nap time
