Hunting around highways

Just curious how people go about running hounds around roads and highways.
Do you try to avoide busy roads, or do you just hope for the best.

I would like to chase some coons by my house but there is a main road (really busy with nat. gas traffic all hours of the day) that runs along a good place to let the dogs loose.

Don't do it. Garmin's may help tell you where that dog is, but that dog still moves alot faster than you can.

Re: Hunting around highways

I agree, I have some really good spots that are right next to I-80, and I refuse to hunt them with the dogs.........I only hunt next old country roads with little to no traffic later at night.....

Re: Hunting around highways

We avoid roads as much as possible. I don't even like hunting near country roads, it only takes one vehicle to come down the road at the wrong time.

No animal is worth losing a hound over.

Re: Hunting around highways

i have alot of time and money in my dog, so i stay way away from roads. as said above, there are too many other good spots to hunt. it just isn't worth taking a chance.
