Running coons in the daytime?

I'm considering starting my Mt. Cur on coons but only have the daytime available for running. Does anyone do any early morning/dusk hunting or am I wasting my time?

Re: Running coons in the daytime?

Now thats a question with a bunch of answers or opinions!
MHO,you may end up with a cold trailer or a good squirrel dog. If it takes to squirrel treeing you may be able to get it to tree coons at night?

Re: Running coons in the daytime?

Thanks for your reply Willy. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking its a bad Idea. I don't want to confuse a decent squirrel dog especially trying to hunt them outside peak hours.

Re: Running coons in the daytime?

Don't know that there would be any confusion. When I squirrel hunt if a coon is out moving they will tree it. Not many squirrels moving at night so it doesn't matter there. I will say that some dogs will take a liking to one over the other. We don't kill a lot of coons in the daylight though.

Re: Running coons in the daytime?

I have ran coins at dawn and dusk and have had great luck with it. If you have a lay up specialist style dog you can hunt them all day on good scent days.

Contenderized!
