It is that time of year again!!! Time to lay down the rules for the 2012 HuntingPA.com buck pool!!!
We are going to keep the contest very similar to last year but there are some minor tweaks so please read rules below. Since we have no way to verify antler scores and because of some squabbling over that in the past killing the spirit of this contest, as in 2010 and 2011 buck size and antler score WILL NOT matter for the awarding of the prizes. HOWEVER this year we will hope to recognize some of the “WOW” bucks with the HuntingPA Bruiser Buck Awards, details of that are yet to be determined but you guys worrying about knocking down some bruiser bucks and we will worry about the details of the award, at a minimum you will grace the home page! We will once again do away with all those separate divisions we had for the various seasons, weapons, genders…, and only have a Youth and Adult category.
So with that in mind, here are the current GUIDELINES FOR 2012’s HuntingPA.com Buck Pool:
You do not have to pre-register for this buck pool, in fact you don’t have to do a thing til your buck is on the ground and tagged, other than maybe prepare a sign to have in your picture when the time comes that says “HuntingPA Deer camp 2012”
There will be only two categories for 2012: Adult (17 and up) and Youth (16 and under), and this division is only so we can celebrate and highlight our successful youth hunters a little more. There will be buck entry threads created for each age group once the season kicks off Sept 29th!
Only bucks legally harvested in PA under fair-chase can be entered in the contest. We do not think it is necessary to go the extra step and require that a PA buck tag be visible in the photo, so we will go strictly by the honor system that the entered buck was legally tagged and harvested in PA. Therefore, it would be in your best interest not to enter more than one.
ANTLER SIZE DOES NOT MATTER for winning a prize , including the top prize!! Again for the 2012 contest, any buck that meets AR restrictions for adults, or the 3” spikes rule for the youth, has the same chance of winning a prize. You get a buck; you got a chance to win a prize in THIS buck pool. Our goal is to have a large line-up of great PA bucks…not a great line-up til someone posts a monster so everyone quite posting. All bucks taken are worthy of recognition here.
WEAPON OR SEASON OF HARVEST DOES NOT MATTER in 2012. All PA legal antlered deer harvested with PA legal weapons have the same chance of winning, regardless if taken on opening day of archery or the last day of flintlock, any buck harvested in that timeframe can be entered.
TO ENTER: All you have to do to enter the contest is to take a picture of you and your buck and post the picture on the buck pool entry thread that will be created here in the Buck Pool forum at the top of the message board . NOTE: That once again in 2012 to be eligible for the GRAND PRIZES OF THIS CONTEST, somewhere in that picture you need to have a an actual sign that says “HuntingPA Deer Camp 2012 ” visible and taken BEFORE the deer is processed and skinned
. THIS CANNOT BE A PHOTO EDIT it needs to actually be in the picture, so you need to make a sign keep it in your pack, vehicle or near the meatpole at camp so you are ready to get a picture with it. Also Note: Pictures without these signs can still be entered and eligible to win prizes, but will not be eligible for the GRAND PRIZES. HPA PRIDE counts BIG in the HuntingPA.com Buck Pool!! This method also rewards those that are here everyday or at least enough to have read the rules first and cut down on those surfing the net to enter their bucks in any contest they can find. They can still enter but our Grand prize will not be going to that person.
Also, A picture in another success thread (IE archery forum success thread), is NOT a buck pool entry. Only Bucks in the buck pool entry threads will be considered so be sure to enter them in this forum.
You can enter any legal PA buck that is harvested from Sept. 29 – Jan. 12. 2013 and the threads will be open for entries that entire time and close 3 days after Flintlock season does (Jan.15) to allow a little time for someone enter those last day miracle bucks. My apologies to those that get their bucks in special extended SRA seasons, but if the season is not a statewide season it does not count. You can enter a buck killed in a SRA, but it has to be between 9/29 and 1/12/2013.
If you have trouble posting your picture on the entry thread, PLEASE ask a moderator or HPA Admin for help instead of not entering altogether….if you are a HPA member WE WANT YOUR PHOTO in the contest, even if we have to post 200 pictures a night for people!!!
No antler scoring is required this year; however feel free to add that and other details to your post (Weapon used, county or WMU of kill, Date, time etc...) and even an extra picture or two, but please start another thread if you got a long story to tell, in fact you are HEAVILY encouraged to do just that. Every buck has a good story and deserves its own thread, after all that is the life blood of this site.
Keep in mind that although picture content is not a judging factor, we ask that the picture captures the pride and respect we have for harvesting whitetails in the great Keystone state. Consider the ease of which anyone on the net can see it, and how it can be linked up out there, etc... The higher caliber the pictures, the better the thread will be at representing who we are as hunters and members of HuntingPA.com. My guess is that this thread is going to be one heck of a testament to the deer hunting and deer hunters we have here in this great state and it is likely going to end up being viewed by people all over the world, including those in our ranks who are overseas fighting for this country and cannot participate in the PA holiday we call deer season. If you are proud of the PA hunting traditions, let your picture show it, be creative with your picture set-up, get the backdrop of Penns Woods at the scene of the harvest, or your hunting gang, or anything that tells us about the incredible day you just had, BUT JUST MAKE SURE YOU GOT “HuntingPA Deer Camp 2012 “NOTED SOMEWHERE IN THAT PICTURE!! To be eligible for all the prizes we collect for this.
How you WIN: 3 days after completion of the flintlock and late archery season in January 2013 the buck pool entry threads will be locked and accept no more entries PERIOD. The HPA staff will then assign a # to all entries listed…mix them up then I will have my kids picks the numbers of the winners. (they love that part of looking back to see who they just picked!) We will draw the winners for the highest Grand Prize on down, and If you got the HPA sign in your picture you get the best prize left available! If you don’t have the HPA sign you will get the best prize on the lower value prize list, we will do this til we run out of prizes.
PRIZES: With 2012 being the type of year it has been in the economy I can only guarantee there will be $ 750 in gift cards going to the buck pool winners in January from HuntingPA and its staff!!
But just like in past years. We HIGHLY encourage those that have a special talent, a gift card to your store, a cool product to showcase, or even just want to support the contest with any donation, send me a PM. Even if you are not an advertiser on HPA right now, we will showcase your product/offering here if you donate to this contest. Send me a PM for more information on this, but we will see that your business, product and generosity gets recognized.
I think everyone that comes to HuntingPA during the season looks forward to seeing this year’s line-up of bucks, they are out there guys RIGHT NOW the only question is who is going to get what and when???That is the fun of watching the HPA buck pool unfold every year. ENJOY IT in the Spirit of which it is meant!!
BE SAFE, HAVE FUN AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT 3+ MONTHS of having bucks roll on in to the lineup HERE at the HuntingPA.com Deer Camp!!
God Bless the PA deer hunter,
