anyone have any luck with homemade canadian decoys? I would like to craft a few and found some ideas on the web, if anyone has and would like to share how they did it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah or any other style. I plan on making silhouettes cause they seam to be the easiest, just cut em out and paint them.

I have been debating on making silos but I think after time and costs it would be more efficient to buy them. Plus they would prob look more realistic then what I would paint.

"pretty" isn't always needed to kill birds, but I don't want to get into that debate. Very time consuming, but if ya got the time, it can be pretty cheap compared to the commercial silo's.

We made 18 doz black and whites this summer. Made out of luan plywood and they're costing us about $2.50/decoy. Not as realistic as Real Geese but I don't think it matters in the situations we'll be using them. PM me your email if you want pics or more details

A long time ago Storm (dmccoy1) told me "Decoys aren't made to look good to birds, they are made to get people to buy them." I've hunted over his sillos with success. I've also shot snows over homemade sock decoys and ducks over homemade foam decoys. I believe that more lifelike the better, but location is more important.
