my bil told me he went and got his and his son's licenses the other day. His son is only 11 and will turn 12 in january. He wanted to get him his mentored youth permit, but the computer printed out a resident junior license. He passed his HTE course in march. He told the guy behind the counter it was the wrong license, but the guy said the computer wouldn't allow him to print out the mentored permit just a junior license. I told him to call the regional office or local WCO to get this straitened out. This doesn't seem right does it? Also can mentored youths buy DMAP permits?

he can buy the license when the child is in his 11th year, but CANNOT hunt until his actual birthday. About the only thing he'll be able to hunt is small game after his B-day, possibly late season flintlock, depending on the date, and spring turkey. But I do agree that you should contact the regional or headquarter office and double check all possibilities

I'm thinking that because he "purchased a junior license" he can no longer purchase a mentor permit. Under 12yo a mentor license was all he could use until his 12th b-day.

A mentored youth can not buy a DMAP or antlerless permit. Only one per year can be transfered by a mentor. Call your regional office & get the Jr license voided.

so is it possible to have puchased the mentor and even though the boy would be 12 in spring gobbler season he wouldnt have to buy the junior license.....i ask because my bother was 16 when he got his junior license but turned 17 before sping and could sill hunt the junior day because he had the junior license

No, on his 12th birthday the mentor license is no longer valid and he must have a junior license

Contact HBG or your regional office.....he should be able to get a mentored youth permit which as explained will be vailid until his 12th birthday. Then upon his 12th birthday he will need to use the Jr. License.
The reasoning behind allowing an 11 year old to purchase a Jr. Licnese (if he turns 12 during the license year) is to permit them to get items such as additional tags which if he had to wait until 12, would be after all doe tags etc. were gone.

Again, call Hbg, they should be able to help you out
