I was and still am interested in SM's. They are extremely versatile. They are supposed to be very good indoors. They sure are not hard to look at either. If had not started out with one of the ugly dogs (Griff) this would be my next choice. The litters don't last long most are reserved beforehand.

Yak,
If you are considering the purchase of a SM, contact
Dean Rasmussen 605-532-5485, he has some great dogs, that repetatively get the job done in the forest on Grouse and Woodcock, his dogs are also incredible Pheasant hunters. He trains on wild birds in SD each year. No doubt you will be on a waiting list for one of his serious SM pup, worth the wait however. Deans SM line are very very biddable dogs and great in the home.

Springspan,
SM dogs and Spaniels get along quite well, my brother had Boykins that use to hunt with my old male SM, man what
a team Sampson and Ginger really were, talk about some serious Grouse hunting.

Thats awesome pine creek. Were both dogs steady? It would be really cool to see a pointy dog standing point and a spaniel sitting steady to the flush of a bird.

Great video and a cool thread in all respects. Loved it when the dog was shaking its head to get rid of the feathers. That dog is all business, with fun on top.

Springspan,
The SM would point and the Boykin most times would flush the Grouse on command, it was especially cool when the Grouse was burried in some very heavy down falls
and the Boykin had to go deep under the brush. The Grouse would come busting out from the most unexpected places, making for some of the greatest gunning a man would ever want. When there was a few inches of snow, the snow would be going everywhere and shooting thru it, was just some of the greatest sport gunning we have ever done. You got to love a Spaniel who really know her job, and works with a SM
as a mixed brace.

Hunting over a mixed brace that works well together would be fantastic.
