set again this weekend. caught this guy on the 2nd night. 24 pounds.. I'm gettin hooked on beaver trapping. Especially with this great weather.. took it at a castor mound set. caught him leaving the mound same as the last one.. I'm setting small islands where they feed so maybe they don't smell the lure (backbreaker) until they're already up on the island? I used ALOT more fencing this time so he walked a fair amount of shoreline before getting to the mound... What percentage of beaver do you guys normally take in coni's as they're leaving the set?
Just curious..

gettin too warm for the hat!! I need to tan up some october fox. maybe it won't be so warm....
Also caught this guy by both hind legs in a #4 double longspring. It didn't even have the strength to tip the trap over and drown itself so I was able to let it go. I've been seeing more rats now that I'm looking for beaver than I thought were around. Def gonna do some water trappin next year.. And from a 100 yards away, I was CERTAIN that the brown ball of fur next to the bank was the head of a monster beaver who managed to drag 40 pounds of weight up out of the mud. lol.

good job. i have gotten a few over the years heading back into water.i don't use conibears much any more and it would be nearly impossible to tell with footholds and snares.either way its a dead beaver and that is the ultimate goal.
