A good friend of mine and occasional hunting partner shot 2 coyotes yesterday right outsisde of Evansburg park on a property he hunts while deer hunting. He dropped them with rifled slugs.

I wasn't there, but I've known this guy for over 15 years and have always known him to be a straight arrow, and never a BSer. His 2 adult sons were with him too, and they all claim that the coyotes were running in a pack of 10-15 dogs. He plans to have the furs tanned and wasn't sure how to skin them, so I cased them for him last night.

This is the first guy that I know of to have killed a coyote around here, I've only seen one once in this area, and that was only for a brief few seconds. He stopped by Evansburg park to show them to the rangers there, and they have never heard of one being shot or trapped there either.

I guess this is part of the reason we're seeing less deer these days in my corner of 5C. Good job Chuck G!!!

To be truthful I would have questioned the 10-15 dogs thing.

hunted evansburg on Friday and my buddy had a yote go right by him during a drive but did not shoot him because there were deer coming his way.

theres some in the area, they mostly stay on the prison property (Gratersford) theres no pressure there. when the prision has there hunts they tell you dont shoot the bucks or the yotes.

I am HIGHLY doubting the 10-15 dog thing. The most we have ever seen together running them with dogs is 6-8 and thats right after the pups are born and through out the summer. After summer breaks the most you see is usually 1-3 together. Breeding season almost always two running together.

Pointing Lab- this was in Worcester.

If it were almost anyone else, I'd call "exaggeration" also.

I will say I've seen a group of at least 8 come tearing through the woods while deer hunting in NY (November); I've also heard multiple howls at night on the same property.

i trap evansburg state park i have never caught one yet but i have seen tracks i have had them pull out of my fox traps...i did run into the hunter that shot the 2 coyotes off of water street on saturday..i believe him...i know they are in the park...i also noticed i haven't seen as many deer as i did in the previous years..possibly because of the increase in coyotes

I am Friends with the captain at the prison which is half mile from my house in skip pack,he tells me there is at least 20-30 resident coyotes....two of which were in my yard 4 weeks ago at 2pm.most of the time they are on the prison and not the park.the last two years they are venturing more and more off the prison.
