Does one have to purchase a General Hunting License if they only intend to trap? Could a Furtakers permit be purchased alone with other permits (bobcat, Fisher)?

Yes, if you have taken the hunter trapper education course or the furtaker education course.

Hunter trapper course has been taken. Just want to trap and not hunt. Don't really see the sense in purchasing a hunting license for $20.50 if I am not planning on using it.

A resident can purchase any one of these (which are applicable) to trap as long as they have met the requirements John S. had mentioned.

Adult Resident Furtaker License: ($20.70) Issued to bona fide residents of Pennsylvania ages 17 through 64.

Junior Resident Furtaker License: ($6.70) Issued to bona fide residents of Pennsylvania ages 12 through 16. Eleven-year-olds may apply for a junior license if they will reach age 12 by June 30 of the current license year and have successfully completed the required Hunter-Trapper Education Course. The actual furtaking privileges granted to the junior license holder may not be exercised until he/she reaches age 12. In addition to the junior applicant’s signature, his/her parent or guardian must sign the license to validate it and the information provided before the junior license holder goes afield.

Senior Resident Furtaker License: ($13.70) Issued to bona fide residents of Pennsylvania age 65 and older. Sixty-four year olds may apply for a Senior license if they will reach age 65 by June 30 of the current license year.

Senior Resident Lifetime Furtaker License: ($51.70) Issued to bona fide residents of Pennsylvania age 65 and older. Sixty-four year olds may apply for a senior lifetime furtaker license if they will reach age 65 by June 30 of the current license year. License holders apply for free renewal furtaker licenses each year as desired.

Senior Resident Lifetime Renewal Furtaker License: (No Charge) Issued to Resident Senior Lifetime Furtaker license holders to renew their lifetime furtaker license for the current year. Lifetime furtaker license holders renewing for the first time through PALS must provide their social security number (one time only) and their valid PA Drivers License or some other form of positive ID showing their current address. ID cards are no longer needed or required since PALS accesses the resident senior lifetime license database to verify privileges that the hunter has on file.

Resident Disabled Veteran (DV) Lifetime Renewal Furtaker License: (No Charge) Issued to Resident DV Lifetime Furtaker license holders to renew their DV lifetime furtaker license for the current year. DV lifetime furtaker license holders renewing for the first time through PALS must provide their social security number (one time only) and their valid PA Drivers License or some other form of positive ID showing their current address. ID cards are no longer needed or required since PALS accesses the resident DV lifetime license database to verify privileges that the individual has on file.

That is trapping only. I would still have to purchase a hunting licnese if I am planning on calling for coyotes or fox?

No, Furtakers license covers it.

HUNTING (A furtaker license is needed to hunt all furbearers except coyotes)
Foxes & Raccoons: Oct. 22-Feb. 18, 2012; no limit; foxes can but raccoons cannot be hunted on Sundays.
Opossums, Skunks & Weasels: No Closed Season. No limit. No Sunday hunting.
Coyotes: (Statewide): No Closed Season. Coyotes can be hunted on Sundays.
(Outside of Any Big Game Season) - May be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker’s license and without wearing orange.
(During Any Big Game Season) - May be taken while lawfully hunting big game or with a furtaker’s license.
Natural or manmade nonliving bait and any electronic or mechanical device can be used to attract coyotes for hunting or trapping. The
law allowing trappers to use any natural or manmade nonliving bait to attract coyotes still does not permit the bait to be visible from the air.
Those hunting coyotes, however, may hunt over bait visible from the air.
Bobcats (WMUs 2A, 2C, 2E, 2F, 2G, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4A, 4D & 4E): Jan. 17-Feb. 7, 2012
Requires a furtaker license and a Bobcat Hunting-Trapping Permit. One bobcat per license year, but all licensed furtakers may obtain one
permit. Permits can be purchased on the PGC website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) by clicking on “The Outdoor Shop,” or through any license
issuing agent.
Firearms For Hunting Furbearers: It is unlawful to take furbearers, including bobcats, with shotguns using shot larger than size number
4 buckshot, or implements that are not lawful firearms, bows or crossbows. Manually operated rifles or handguns of any caliber, manually
or semi-automatic shotguns and, bows and crossbows can be used. Persons hunting for furbearers, including coyotes, foxes, bobcats,
raccoons, skunks, opossums and weasels, may use gun-mounted lights that do not project a laser-light beam.
Dogs: Dogs are permitted to hunt furbearers.

Then you are good to go with just the furtaker license.
