I just got the last issue from QDM, and the editor wrote a FANTASTIC column about the rack-size craze and how it's not in line with QDM at all. It was a great column. If you don't like 120-class deer, that's your choice, but I've started to grow weary of the mindset that a 120" deer is nothing special. I'm curious how many of the guys on here who adopt that mindset have shot a deer over 120 OR who have PASSED on deer that would likely have scored 120.

I would be willing to bet the vast majority wouldn't know what to do with themselves with a 120" deer in front of them.

I don't like the idea that people are ramping up the price and pricing most of us out of the market, but that also seems likes someone got numbers wrong. There isn't that kind of money in pro hunting to pay $750,000 for extra land to help in the pursuit of a deer that may or may not still be there.

A 120-130 isn't "big" in Iowa. I have friends out there that wouldn't even give those bucks a 2nd glance.

As for me, I've killed 3 over 130" but I'm not sure if i could still pass up a 120". It would depend on the situation at the time. I might, I might not.

There is no way that these numbers are true. You can buy land in Iowa's best deer counties for between $1,900 and $2,500 an acre. Better to by the land and manage it than lease it for those prices.

They usually rub a lot around their bedding area.

Aside from rubbing, I've killed some bucks that tended to bed in clearcuts and tall fields with very bleached out racks as well, from exposure to the sun as best as I could figure.

I have pondered this subject as well. I always thought it was genetics or nutrition. I never thought of the sun...

There is no chance, zero, that someone paid $750,000 a year for a lease on this property. You can buy that property outright for that price or less. Some people will believe anything they hear down at the local watering hole...

Also, why is everyone so concerned with how everybody else is hunting. Save your money, buy your own property and hunt the way you want to and don't worry about everybody else and whether or not they want to shoot buck that score higher.

I DIDN'T SAY THAT A 120 INCH BUCK IS NICE FOR PA, I AM REFERING TO IOWA!!! WHETHER OR NOT THE PRICE IS ELEVATED, I DON'T KNOW AND I AM SURE NOT GOING TO CALL ONE OF MY CLIENTS A LIAR. I AM JUST SAYING THAT IS THIS OUR FUTURE, YOU FIND NICE PROPERTY HUNT IT FOR YEARS AND THEN SOME SON OF BUCK COMES IN AND THROWS OUT THE BIG MONEY AND YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK FOR A HUNTING AREA

So who's really to blame? The guy throwing the money or the guy "catching" it? \:\/
