Update from the "Pointing Again" post. I had Cassie out again today for some scratch birds at Pheasant Valley Farm. I believe she pointed 4 and flushed 6, not good numbers in my book, but we'll keep working on it.

Some of the cover at PVF.

Cassie's first point of the day. Not her most intense point, but a point nonetheless.

Cassie's first retrieve of the day. I had the camera zoomed in to far for the pic, sorry.

Cassie's second retrieve of the day. I have no troubles with her retrieving, she loves it.

We bagged 2 hens today, should have had 1 more hen and a rooster that she handled very nicely. I'm going to pray for a bunch more patience and keep working at it.

The hen and rooster that we didn't bag was my fault(bad shooting), maybe she's in her crate praying for more patience too!

Hello
Sure does sound like the Cassie knows what birds on Are you working Cassie on a check cord reinforcing who and what is expected or are you just hunting Not knowing the whole sotry go back to basics with whoa. Maybe the amount of birds and scent is confusing.

Thanks for all the comments guys. She is a good dog, we just got to get her over the hurdle from when she was catching birds in junior hunter.

She isn't whoa broke yet, so I'm not using the command when she is on birds. I'll work on steadiness after hunting season. Right now I just want her to hold birds until I flush them. I think if we were in a more controlled environment, like pigeons or chukar in traps, we would get better results. I think the running pheasants are a little bit to much for her, but she is getting some experience on them. I am working on whoa breaking her now, sometimes it's tough with 4 dogs and a full time job. Now I'm down to 3 dogs and I got laid off, so no excuses now. I'll get her back on traps come training season when my NAVHDA clubs start training again.
