It appears on 1 hide I have the start of some kind of a white mold....it just doesn't look right. I don't have a heat source in my shed, had the windows open for air. Is it better to keep the windows open, closed, a fan running to circulate air or what to stop this from continuing. Is there something I can spray on it to stop it? It is on a fox I caught yesterday and was thinking about turning it today but don't think it is ready.

Take a handful of 20 Mule Team Borax and wipe the leather side of the pelt down.

I agree with the Borax. However, I only use it on thick ares of the pelt like around the head are where fleshing is tough or where the legs fold over the pelt slightly Don't cover the entire pelt with Borax . ( you can get Borax in a grocery it the Luandry soap isle it's in a green box) A fan is also great idea. Be sure that you have all fat removed the will spoil first. AlsoGet the DVD " After the Catch" You can get from any of the trapping supply house (kaatz, cumberland, Minnosota ) It's four hour 2 DVD set that teaches you everything. If this is your first season trapping or your 100th You will learn something...more like learn allot

Couger, you must of put up some fur during all those rain days we had a few weeks ago. It is the dampness that will cause mold. Like the guys said use a fan and keep it running. If I get a long spell of damp, humid or foggy wheather I turn on the small propane heater in my shed. Make sure to put a stick up through the fox after you turn them to allow air to get in there or thay may mold,a yard stick works good. I keep the shed closed with the fan on except on dry warm days I may open the door but keep the fan on.
