HOPE you were Snaring Beavers....

If Not, you just lost 10 points Off your Cable Restraints Certificate... keep going and you will end loosing CR Certificate!

Snares- Beavers Only...

Cable Restraints- Fox and Coyotes....

Have to use the Correct Name!!

Wow..lenittrapper54 thanks for taking the time to post all of those pictures. It was helpful to me. I just started last year and I am content trapping just a small handful of critters each year. If you guys don't mind me asking:

1.) Any tips for making a set to minimize my chances of getting fox and maximize my chances of getting a coyote. I want to save the fox for night hunting.

2.) Where is the best place to shoot a critter. The racoon seem to bleed too much.

3.) I don't have or want a lot of traps. Any suggestions for reusing a trap that I have caught a critter in?

4.) I am scared to let non target furbearers go with my snare pole. Do I just need to man up or is this fear justified?

1) You could step up your pan tension and keep the pan back 9 or 10 inces from attractor
2)I would say throught the lungs a small diameter .22 hole wont devalue the pelt as long as u dont tear it larger during fleshing process
3)Any time you catch a critter put the same trap in the same spot. I caught so many fox after possums, skunks and even coyote that it just makes the set better. With that being said dont use a dirty trap at a brand new set cuz it will cause digging
4)Look at it this way that snare pole can turn into a weapon the same as anything . Pin em down and keep the pole between you and the critter. 99% of the time they run the other 1% well you know LOL

Thanks for the tips and the pics.

Thanks for the topic for the noobs.

I have a question. I have been wanting to trap for a few years now. I don't live near the area I will be trapping. How many of you make your sets for short periods of time then pull them for the next time you can get out? In my case, i would only be able to set and use my traps for about a week, then i would have to pull them. A month later i would be able to set them again and pull them a week later. Do any of you trap for short periods of time like this? Have any of you done it just over a weekend? I have seen several coyote, fox and coon in the area that i want to trap, and i really want to give this a try.
