So finally bought a boat with 20hp motor the max size for most of the lakes around here but I was wondering for the lake like pinchot tht don't not allow motors can I still use my boat there if I only use my trolling motor and keep my outboard tilled up?
I know of at least one lake that is known for getting windy and batteries going dead and people would use their gas motors just to get back to the launch. Probably not legal but what other choice is there?
I just keep the motor up on my big boat. I don't remove the prop or the tank.
There have been two occasions when I had to rescue people. One occasion would have certainly resulted in the death of the boater if we could not have gotten to him. Neither incident was on an electric only lake but if someone was in trouble they could die while trying to get to them with an electric.
i was looking at like long pine res. in adams say it is restricted but if i bring up the electric motor only interactive map it isnt on there so when it says motor restricted is tht no motor or restricted to electric they could make it easier with a simple electric only or the limited hp, or just no motors
I had a 60 on mine , I spoke with a Fish Comm. officer at Pymy who stated to leave the motor up and use my 9.9, he also said that if a bad storm comes up while on the lake that 9.9 may not get you off fast enough so drop that 60 and get off the lake to safety. When asked about the violation he stated that it would be negligence on the Fish Commission and DCNR to put your life in danger by having a fully functioning motor that could save your life if needed and having either of those entities tell you disable a means of saving your life ( the motor ) in any manner. If that motor functions when needed and saves your family or you from disaster I would gladly accept any citation from the FISH Comm. or anyone else and would love to articulate my defense at the local magistrate's office. But I don't think you are going to have a problem .
talked to a guy at pymy who got a $175 fine for doing what you just wrote..hargued with the dcnr guy but figured he would rather save his family and went ahead and paid the fine
The lake i was on the other day..big signs no gas motors..i puled my tank. Tilted it but most boats i saw just Tilted it..its a water works lake...oh well
I get checked a lot. Outboard mounted electric trolling motor so my motor isn't tilted out of the water. Never been a issue. I tilt the motor up show them the motor and at most hear well I ain't never seen that before. Life vests, throws, fire exist, etc they check with a fine tooth comb
