Bear Proof Automatic corn feeder!

I promised I would post my Bear Proof set up for a few of you guys. So here it is. As you all know a bear can and will wreck havoc on a corn feeder, We have Tons of bear on all of our property's and they just destroyed our feeders year after year so My dad and I came up with a set up to keep bears completely away and have an easy inexpensive way of feeding the deer and turkey. I been feeding deer and turkey at multiple property's and feeders for years with this set up and it works Beautiful. So i took a series of pics so you can get the idea and if any of you have any questions feel free to ask. Ill try not to leave anything out. at the end of the pics ill post a few of the items you need to buy to make this set up.

Ok first find 2 trees about 10ft apart so that the feeder hangs in the middle between the two so a bear cant climb the tree and reach out and grab it. Use 3/16 chain (at Walmart 20ft piece in a plastic box already cut) u can buy quick threaded link chain connectors there too.) My chain is about 18feet up around the tree cuz the feeder is 4ft high and the chain sags a foot or so and the barrel chain is about 1 1/2 high also. So the BOTTOM of my spinner is about 9ft off the ground. Everything I use has like 500+ lb weight limit. Anything like that will be fine. The components are cheap chain 20.00 threaded links few bucks, 650 lb pulley is about 10.00 the 2000lb hand boat winch is about 25.00 or so. and (4) 5” 1/2in dia lag bolts are a few bucks. Most expensive part is your feeder, but your buying that to begin with Right? So my components without feeder cost is about 75 bucks total.

Oh I will note: If you Do not want to screw lags into the tree then just mount the winch onto that 2x6 like I did and put an Eye bolt thru the 2x6 board and just choke a piece of chain around the base of the tree that way you wouldn’t hurt any of the trees in any way. (see I told ya I know what im doing) LOL One thing good about the chain is that the trees can move freely in the wind and trees are unharmed and you can remove it very easily if needed. Now my set up I just lagged the 2x6 to the tree cuz its our property and the hemlock trees I used arnt worth anything. Like I said feel free to ask questions.

Take a look at the pics and you will see I don’t cut corners and don't use junk! I want it to last 30+ years no problem. If you have another way feel free to use it! This is just a very good Solid set up and my whole family has this set up on there property's as well. Oh for i forget one last thing, these game Country spinners i use are Made in USA and are made of Aluminum and steel so critters can chew it up. They take a 6v battery or 4 D's in the adapter (4)D's = 6V And the Batterys last about 9months to a year. You should see the bears trying to figure out how to get at this feeder, lol its funny I hope you enjoy the set up. Take care!

These are the best feeders made Made of Aluminum and steel. No plastic for critters to chew! MADE IN USA Great price too.

Re: Bear Proof Automatic corn feeder!

I've seen people do that with their bird feeders. Great idea if you have bears in the area!

Re: Bear Proof Automatic corn feeder!

Thanks for posting. I really like that set up. I don't have any bears to worry about where I'm at but that set up looks like it's built to last.

Re: Bear Proof Automatic corn feeder!

What do you do to "lock" the winch so the cable doesnt lower the barrel if the bear pulls on the cable?
