Six of us were up this weekend battling the still extremely bad roads more to locate some bulls for the next couple of weekends than actually expecting to find horns as it is a touch early yet. We did talk about the bad winter and that just maybe that would have the horns off earlier. We covered a lot of ground, saw a lot of bulls almost all of which were still carrying.....almost all!! Here's Colton Bollman with what we think might be the first elk shed of 2014. Does he look happy?
More pics of the trip to follow.
was down today. saw 6 bulls all were still holding. 5 of them were in one group being fed hay by the dcnr guys and the other was a nice 6 pt on one side and a big club on the other. seen lots and lots of cows. Seen anywhere from bare ground up to 13" inches of snow.
I did A LOT of walking today and nothing. Didn't even see an elk till I got back to 'civilization'. lol From the number of bootprints in the snow they're probably getting them as soon as they hit the ground.
