I am a noob to coyote hunting. Went today and didnt see a single coyote. Used a variety of calls ranging from cotton tail distress to one i found of a group of coyotes attacking a cotton tail. Couldnt call in any coyotes or get any response. Can somebody give me some tips on what ind of habitat to set up up, and the calling techniques that will give me the best chance of calling one in. Any and all help is greatly appreciated
Ive only been after them for a few season now and never called one in yet, but first make sure that there are yotes in the area that your hunting, and there not going to come easy either....also read what Kenbuck and others have posted in the information for beginners thread...great info there!
They are definetly in there, there was a fair amount of tracks and I had a buddy who got one during deer season last year. I knew it wasnt going to be easy, I expect to be after them for a while before i get them.
I think we, us here in Pa, see hunting shows from out west and may think our coyotes will act the same. A lot of time searching and careful set-ups will let you see more coyotes. This was my downfall, I would see them as they busted me. I have found that quiet calling for small areas is best. If a coyote carried a club there wouldn't be many hunters around without a knot on their head. So we need to be very sneaky!!
