My opinion archery should be open until the week before thanksgiving to take full advantage of the rut. My observations show peak big buck movement around peak breeding (Nov15th) - plus or minus a few days. Add another week and get rid of the early doe in which does nothing but make the buck you pattered all summer go nocturnal as the woods are invaded with hot sweaty hunters and late scouting pressure -In 2b you can hunt doe only Nov 12th to 24th as well. In year past when this window was open I had to pass on a few great deer while trying to harvest doe.
great...miss the best week of the rut again- way to go PGC
You "are" kidding right?
The rut begins long before the first week of November.
In "best" you may be referring to the "chase" phase when it's easy to see bucks running crazy from so much estrus in the air.
I've arrowed more, and bigger, bucks in October and the first week of November when bucks are scouting for estrus does than I have after November 10th.
In the early rut stages they are hanging with does along normal doe-travel routes and much easier to pattern.
Bear in mind, the PGC has already extended bow season into mid November.....................not that it would hurt to make it longer.
I'm all for more opportunity when it makes sense, but I have no complaint about "rut hunting" either.
