I set a ground blind on a fresh rub-line Thursday may sit in it to buck (pun intended) some of this wind....it's right on a transition into the thickest nastiest bedding around.
Plan on sitting all day unless I get called to work. At work now and I am on call today so we will see what happens. 39 degrees here with a light wind, with the doe opener here today there should be some guys out hunting.
In stand since 6:30, getting daylight now. Clear, cool and calm in 4E, heard a few shots off in the distance. Good luck everyone, shoot straight and be safe today..
Hunting game lands in 5b Lebanon county. Several cars in the parking lot. Only saw two hunters that keep moving closer and closer to me. They move every hour. They setup at 200 yards away and are now about 100 yards. They don't seem to be able to sit still. Oh well it's public. Only heard a handful of shots and have not seen anything yet.
The good news, I got a call this morning at 7:30, my youngest grandson got his first!
The bad....
Unfortunately my deer season had monkey wrench thrown in it's gears. Maw had a pretty bad Psoriatic arthritis flare. In short the palms of her hands and soles of her feet crack and peel to the point they bleed. As it is currently she can barely walk so its my job to take care of the 'ol gal which is far more important to me than a mangy goat!
Started my walk at 6:00 and got to the area I wanted to be by 6:30.
Saw more hunters today than opening day and the weather was perfect, except the winds are still out of the NW
Around 7:15 two hunters came walking briskly down a snow mobile trail and past the tree I had a hang on stand attached to but must not have even seen me. About 5 min. later 3 doe came out. I watched them for a bit and burnt my DMAP on the bigger one.
This is it for me for rifle season, but I still have my buck tag and another doe tag for 3C, which I intend on using for late archery.
Glad its cold out so I can leave the deer hang until tonight when I get back from Christmas tree cutting with my family before I take it to the processor.
Good Luck to all, next week has a couple days of light snow in the forecast, but I have to work.
1, At 7:30 AM I had a nice buck walk out 40 yards in front of me standing broadside. I shouldered my rifle, centered the crosshairs on the vitals and squeezed the trigger only to hear "CLICK"! The buck started running and I worked the bolt action and chambered another round but it was too late....
2, Here in 2C, it is the continuation of buck season, the first day of doe season and the last day of extended bear season. Also, it's Saturday, usually more people are able to get out and hunt. I only saw 1 deer today (the buck) and hardly any shooting.
I had 5 deer in front of me about 6:15 am. Too dark to see anything, other than I knew they were deer. Could not make out any antlers. They hung around for a bit, but when I put the gun up, I could not make out the crosshairs in the dark. And of course, they ambled away just as it was getting light enough to see! Argh!!
Heard on the radio that a guy shot a 10 pointer. Not sure how far away he was, but it was windy.
No shots heard!!!! This is quite upsetting. The first day of doe here in 3D and the first Saturday.....with no shots heard.
I finished my 2016 season thismourning here in 2F when I took a large doe about 20 min. after leaving my van.... just a slow stroll up a tram-road and out walk 3 doe.... and BAM, season over.
I called it a day. Saw zero. heard less that 15 shots in 5B on two different game lands. Everyone in the parking lot when I was leaving said the same thing. They saw nothing this season or archery. Seems like everyone in my area is having a tough year. I have no idea why.
My son and I saw three buck and two doe. He was doe only and could not get a shot. I just had the camera. Sat til 1:30 and he needed a change of scenery. Decent amount f shooting til 9 am then pretty quiet.
Had to make a trip to the dump today, as I am tagged out, (highly unusual).
Anyway, took a quick side trip up a State Game Lands road where I killed a buck Monday....counted 38 cars in the first 5 parking areas.
I don't know how many where there the first day of buck because I was in early and when I came out at 1:30 the place was deserted, but NEVER expected to see so many cars today.......
