HELP: Poaching Perry County

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking the public's help to identify who has been illegally killing white-tailed deer at night in Saville Township, Perry County.

The commission said that since Oct. 30, 11 deer have been shot and left where they fell along Rupp Road and Dobbs Road.

"Most of the deer were shot in fields and wooded areas along Dobbs Road," according to a press release. "Many of the deer were shot in the head, with one doe shot through the eye. She was no doubt looking at the shooter’s spotlight when she was poached. There appeared to be no attempts to retrieve any meat from this or any other deer that were killed. One large bodied buck did have its head and antlers removed after it was poached."

The investigating officer, Wildlife Conservation Officer Steve Hower said, "The killing of all these deer is not only illegal, it is despicable. Using these majestic animals for nothing more than target practice shows a blatant disrespect for wildlife.”

Rifle deer season did not start until Dec. 2. It also is illegal to hunt at night.

The dead deer, Hower said, "were discovered the following morning by local people. There were six deer shot in one night alone. ... These are deer that we are aware of. There very well could be more deer that were shot and not discovered."

The last dead deer was found Nov. 30.

Hower is asking that anyone with information to call the Game Commission at 814-643-1831. Callers can remain anonymous and there may be a reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Re: HELP: Poaching Perry County

Just a thought - Wonder if there is private property in the area that someone no longer has access to, or were prosecuted for trespassing? And they were trying to seek some sort of revenge? Why else would you keep going to the same area?
