San Juan Rabbits

Hi guys, does anyone have any idea of someone in PA that sells San Juan Rabbits? I will need approx 40 of them. I found a place in Ohio, but I would like to find some place closer. Any advice is welcomed. And it doesn't have to be San Juan rabbits, it can be another breed as long as it runs!!! Thank you
Pam

Re: San Juan Rabbits

It is illegal to release San Jaun rabbits in PA, and unlawful to import or release any rabbits into the wild.

I couldn't find anywhere in the post where it said " so I can release them in the wild." If your talking rabbits for starting pups with, I would just go to a livestock auction and get tame rabbits. After a couple of days in the pen they run pretty good.

Thanks, it wasn't going to be released into the wild. I was afraid those rabbits wouldn't run well enough, do you think they will?

Re: San Juan Rabbits

They are actually hares not rabbits. Back in the 50s there was an attempt to introduce them in PA for hunting purposes, farmers hated them because they dug warrens and not many were killed by hunters and the program was discontinued. They were then deemed destructive by dept of ag. My dad was involved in raising them for release for the R field and stream sportsmans club in Lebanon so I saw a lot of them, they are a lot bigger than cottontails.
